Arduino Uno + XBee S2C (API)
The XBees are for wireless communication. I needed to install XCTU software on a laptop in order to configure them. An advantage is that they appear to have all the bells and whisles. But a disadvantage is they there are a lot of bells and whisles to chose from. I have tried to keep to the default settings.
